For Parallax 2 Gill Addison will present Work-Out (fractions and sum of parts) a video installation with printed matter. Work-Out has been developed and made during the MEAD residency at the British School at Rome.
Work-Out forms a major component of the PhD ‘Something to hold onto: The re- materialisation of research in artist’s moving image practice’. This practice-based PhD focuses upon an examination and interrogation of the processes and re-materialisation of research within the field of artists moving image. The intention is to consider the role of a filmmaker as researcher and archivist.
(Video installation with printed matter)
Work-Out seeks to address the process of unlearning via making visible the process of ‘working out’ the relationships between the research references, influences and material used in the new video works Fractions 1 and 2.
Work-Out will attempt to present the ‘ideas’ behind the work as a ‘piece of work’ in their own right.
Work-Out will explore the relationships and tangents found within the reference texts (films L’Eclisse and Hiroshima, Mon Amour) and enact a speculative relationship to place/location and narrative.
