24 Jan 2017
4.30pm to 6pm
Drawing on the current debate following the recent UK vote to leave the EU, postgraduate students (both taught and research) at UAL are invited to join the Passagens series of Reading Groups, which offers a broad historical context and the insight by artists and curators whose work evolve around the themes of migration, social sustainability and the environment.
Passagens Session 3
Moving – with Fugitive Images (David Roberts and Andrea Zimmerman)
This event is open to all UAL Postgraduate students, UAL staff, as well as a wider community of invited alumni, practitioners and researchers in this field.
Join artists David Roberts and Andrea Zimmerman from Fugitive Images for an interactive session, exploring issues of migration and marginalisation, precarity and nomadism.
Through the screening of selected excerpts of their work and conversation with the reading group, Fugitive Images will explore:
– the contested relationship between power and the public, community and categorisation,
– resistance against structural violence and the refusal of a single way of seeing and being.
– their long-term work with communities of people and animals in east London and Istanbul forced from their homes
– how these journeys resonate with issues of migration and marginalisation, precarity and nomadism.
