PhD Workshops

These workshops are intended to help in the successful achievement of Registration and Confirmation and other aspects of the PhD, hence they are complementary to RNUAL.

The PhD Workshops are run by Dr Caterina Albano (for further info email c.albano@csm.arts.ac.uk).

All workshops are at KX.

Workshop 2: Professor Jeremy Till 12/10/17 14.00-16.00 C105 How to Read and Rite’/The Contingent Researcher: Jeremy Till presents a double header, starting with some very basic, but necessary, observations on reading and writing, and then moving on to answer the question – how can good research possibly be contingent?
Workshop 3: Dr Caterina Albano 25/10/17 14.00-16.00 D119 LDOC AND TECHNE   APPLICATION: Focusing on drafting LDOC and TECHNE applications. Continuing students applying to LDCOC and TECHNE can bring their draft proposal for group discussion.
Workshop 4: Dr Caterina Albano 01/11/17 14.00-16.00 D119 REGISTRATION 2: The workshop builds on Registration 1. Students are invited to bring their draft registration proposal for group discussion.
Workshop 5: Vivienne Eades 15/11/17 14.00-16.00 D107 HOW TO SEARCH E-RESOURCES: Vivienne Eades, Assistant Academic Support Librairian for Post-Graduate Students, leads a workshop on library e-resources and how to access other resources.
Workshop 6: Dr Caterina Albano   & Dr Jona Piehl 22/11/17 14.00-16.00 C105 MAPPING RESEARCH: Dr Jona Piehl will lead this workshop focusing on how to develop visual charts and plan charts as a means of conceptualization.
Workshop 7: Dr Caterina Albano 29/11/17 14.00-16.00 D115 CONFIRMATION 1: A brief overview of what confirmation entails (e.g. abstract, thesis chapter plan, contextual review, bibliography, etc.) and how to shape the various components of the written document. Confirmation 1 looks at abstract and chapter plans. Students are invited to bring their abstract and thesis chapter plan for group discussion.
Workshop 8: Dr Caterina Albano 06/12/17 14.00-16.00 M305a CONFIRMATION 2: The workshop builds on Conformation 1, focusing on the structuring of the contextual review. Students are invited to bring a draft of the contextual review for group discussion.

Workshop 11: Stephanie Meece 17/01/18 14.00-16.00 D109 UAL ONLINE REPOSITORY: Exploring the UAL research online digital repository (UALRO) and its relevance to PhD students. The workshop is led by Stephanie Meece, Scholarly Communications Manager.

Workshop 13: Dr Caterina Albano 14/02/18 14.00-16.00 D119 STRUCTURING A PHD DISSERTATION: Focusing on how to shape a PhD thesis by looking at different examples and ways to integrate theory and practice, documentation, methodology and the literary and contextual reviews.
Workshop 14: Dr Caterina Albano 21/02/18 14.00-16.00 D111 REGISTRATION: The workshop builds on Registration 1. Students are invited to bring their draft registration proposal for group discussion.

The Doctoral Platform at CSM offers PhD candidates the space in which to meet, share research, as well as co-ordinate, curate and participate in a variety of events.
