PhD Workshops 2015-16

These seminars are intended to help for successful achievement of Registration and Confirmation and other aspects of the PhD, hence they are complementary to RNUAL.

WORKSHOP 1 – CONFIRMATION 1 – 16-Sep 2-4 PM – Room D113

The workshop gives a brief overview of what confirmation entails (e.g. abstract, thesis chapter plan, contextual review, bibliography, etc..) and focuses on how to shape the various components of the written document. Confirmation 1 looks at abstract and chapter plan. Students are invited to bring their abstract and thesis chapter plan for group discussion.

 

WORKSHOP 2 – CONFIRMATION 2 – 22-Sep 2-4 PM – Room D113

The workshop builds on Wokshop 1 (Conformation 1) and focuses on the structuring of the contextual review. Students are invited to bring a draft of the contextual review for group discussion. 

 

WORKSHOP 3 – REGISTRATION – 7-Oct 2-4 PM – Room D117

The workshop focuses on how to develop a registration proposal through a close consideration of the registration form and group work. 

 

WORKSHOP 4  – PROFESSOR JEREMY TILL, HOW TO READ AND WRITE/THE CONTINGENT RESEARCHER 14-Oct 2-4 PM – Room D105

Jeremy Till presents a double header, starting with some very basic, but necessary, observations on reading and writing, and then moving on to answer the question – how can good research possibly be contingent? 

 

WORKSHOP 5 – RESEARCH VISUAL CHARTS TO BE RUN WITH GRAPHIC DESIGNER TUTOR JONA PIEHL – 21-Oct 2.30-4.30 PM – Room D107

This session focuses on how to develop visual charts and plan charts which help to conceptualize the research and research process through visualization.

The workshop follows on from workshop 1 on how to write a registration proposal. Students are invited to bring their work-in-progress proposal for group discussion. 

 

WORKSHOP 7 – REGISTRATION – 11-Nov 2.30-4.30 PM – Room A116

The workshop follows on from workshop 1 on how to write a registration proposal. Students are invited to bring their work-in-progress proposal for group discussion. 

 

WORKSHOP 8 – REGISTRATION – 13-Jan 2-4 PM – Room D103

The workshop follows on from workshop 1 on how to write a registration proposal. Students are invited to bring their work-in-progress proposal for group discussion.

The workshop follows on from workshop 1 on how to write a registration proposal. Students are invited to bring their work-in-progress proposal for group discussion. 

 

WORKSHOP 10 – STRUCTURING A PHD THESIS – 15-Mar 10-12 PM – Room D119

The workshop focuses on how to shape a PhD thesis by looking at different examples and ways to integrate theory and practice, documentation, methodology and the literary and contextual reviews.
